Biographies - DallasGary Johnson, CIC ext. 214 Gary grew up in the Texas panhandle. He began his business career in education. At age 26 he was the founder and president of a private prep school on Southeastern Florida. He began his insurance career in 1983 when he began an agency in Austin, Texas. In 1990 he sold the agency and became an executive officer of a large publicly held regional broker. In 1995, he became the executive officer of the Dallas and Fort Worth offices of the third largest publicly held broker in the world. Gary has held numerous professional and civic positions. He has represented his company on national agency councils and served on many research and development teams for the insurance industry. He was the vice-president of a public school board, a member of the board of a local hospital, President of the Chamber of Commerce, member of the Rotary and Lions Clubs and President of a local youth organization. Gary is a frequent speaker on insurance, motivation, strategic planning, merger and acquisitions, problem solving and sales and marketing strategy. His area of emphasis in insurance is to assist the business owner or executive management team in the protection of their balance sheet and to increase their profits by placing them in a more competitive position through the design of their insurance program.
ROB DREILING, CIC, CRM ext. 216 Rob is the Executive Vice President of Grayhawk Companies. Rob has experience in all Insurance operations and specializes in marketing and risk management. Rob began his insurance career with the Hartford Insurance Company. Rob is a graduate of the University of Texas where he received a degree in Business Administration and Marketing. Rob has his CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) and CRM (Certified Risk Manager) designations. He is the one person in the history of CIC to finish his CIC and CRM in one year. Rob’s role at Grayhawk is to assist new and existing clients in implementing their insurance programs. In all areas related to risk management, Rob works with existing clients as well as new prospects.
MERLE JONES ext. 218 Merle was born and raised in Iowa and entered the insurance industry in Kansas City with Aetna C&S. He soon became a Senior Commercial Casualty Underwriter for Aetna in Atlanta and in 1977 left the carrier side of the business to join the broker world. Merle came to Dallas in 1986 with one of the world’s largest brokers. Merle’s casualty experience has created a reputation for him of being one of the best in the industry. Merle’s role at Grayhawk is to direct the broker initiative by creating relationships with producers that are built around a mutual desire to write business.
DEBBIE HITT ext. 217 Debbie is the Senior Vice President of Grayhawk Insurance and Risk Management. Her responsibility at Grayhawk is the oversight of all administration and daily operations. Debbie has been in the insurance industry for over 20 years. She began her career with AIG. In 1984 she moved to the agency side assuming both insurance and administrative responsibilities.
KARA PIERCE, CIC ext. 225 Kara was born and raised in the Dallas area. She began her insurance career in 1991 and joined Grayhawk in 1999. Kara received her CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) designation in September 2006. Kara’s role as Assistant Vice President of Client Management is to manage our commercial accounts and assist clients in any way possible.
RON JOHNSON, CCST ext. 223 Ron was born in Chattanooga, Tenn. and grew up in Austin, Texas. Ron came to Grayhawk in May of 2000. Prior to his insurance career, Ron was a golf professional for six years, both in Austin and Dallas, with the world’s largest golf management company. He also attended college on a baseball scholarship. Ron has his CCST (Certified Construction Safety Technician) designation. Ron’s role at Grayhawk is a producer and to assist clients with their insurance/risk management needs.
REBECCA HEMPHILL ext. 203 Rebecca was born in New Braunfels, Texas but has lived in Dallas most of her life. She joined Grayhawk in May 2003. As Bond Assistant, Rebecca helps new and existing clients regarding Surety Bonds. She also acts as the Front Desk Coordinator helping everyone around the office.
BRENT BLONIGAN ext. 219 Brent grew up in Minnesota. He has been working with Texas based clients for several years. Brent came on board at Grayhawk in January of 2004. Brent is a Senior Vice President of Grayhawk Companies. He is responsible for creating and managing the Surety Division of Grayhawk. Because Brent has extensive Surety and entrepreneurial experience, he is a valuable resource for Grayhawk and our clients.
MARCI SHEA ext. 204 Marci was born in Worthington, Minn. and raised in Primghar, Iowa. She joined Grayhawk in October 2004. Prior to joining Grayhawk, Marci was in the staffing industry. She received her bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and her master’s degree in Human Resources both from the University of South Dakota. Marci’s role at Grayhawk as Managing Vice President of Special Risk Services is to assist new and existing clients with their Safety and Loss Control needs. She has taken several classes regarding OSHA training and regulations, as well as general safety training.
GREG SMITH ext. 212 Greg was born in Fairbanks, Alaska and raised in Austin, Texas. He joined Grayhawk in December 2004. Prior to starting his insurance career, Greg was in the golf business for 22 years starting at the Austin Country Club. He was the Director of Golf at Barton Creek Country Club in Austin, Texas for 11 years, and the Director of Golf at Gleneagles Country Club in Plano, Texas for five years. Greg was also a Principal in Cawley Golf, Inc., a golf acquisition company. Greg will assume the role of Executive Vice President of Business Development for the Grayhawk Companies. His grand character and personality has brought and will continue to bring excitement to the Grayhawk family and our clients.
SHARON SNYDER ext. 211 Sharon joined Grayhawk in December 2004. She grew up in Dallas and attended Southern Methodist University where she received a degree in Public Affairs and Corporate Communication. Prior to joining Grayhawk, Sharon worked in both the insurance industry and the high tech field. Sharon’s role at Grayhawk is Assistant Account Manager. She supports in managing commercial accounts and assists clients as needed.
KELLEY SHEA, PHR ext. 215 Kelley was born in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. and raised in Primghar, Iowa. She joined Grayhawk in January 2005. Prior to her starting at Grayhawk, Kelley was in the staffing industry for five years, which included work at The Hyatt Regency Hotel, Microsoft, and Texas Instruments. She received her bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation and her master’s in Human Resources both from the University of South Dakota. Kelley is also certified as a Professional in Human Resources. Kelley’s role as Managing Vice President of Grayhawk Financial & Benefits Services includes assisting new and existing clients with benefit and human resource issues.
MICHELLE BURCHFIELD, CISR ext. 210 Michelle was born and raised in Sacramento, Calif. She moved to Frisco, Texas in December 2004 and joined Grayhawk in March 2005. Michelle has been working in insurance for eight years. After working on the carrier side for four years, she then moved to the agency side of insurance. Michelle received her CISR (Certified Insurance Service Representative) designation in October 2006. As an Account Manager, Michelle's role is to assist new and existing clients with all of their needs.
MIKEY DeMENT ext. 220 Mikey was born and raised in Pottsboro, Texas. He joined Grayhawk in December 2005. Prior to joining Grayhawk, Mikey worked at Highport Marina on Lake Texoma. With his experience in customer relations, he will be an asset to Grayhawk and our clients. Mikey's role at Grayhawk as a Safety & Loss Control Account Executive involves assisting clients with all their business needs. His personality and spark will be an essential key to his success at Grayhawk and with our clients.
Melissa Smith ext. 205 Melissa was born in Dallas, TX where she has lived most of her life. She left for a few years to attend school at Trinity University where she received a degree in Spanish and International Relations. Before coming to Grayhawk in June 2006, she worked in the healthcare industry. Melissa’s role as Benefits Coordinator is to assist clients with their benefits needs.
Biographies-Austin
JANICE HERRERA, CIC ext. 251 Janice was born in Dallas but lived most of her life in Austin. She has worked in the insurance industry since 1976 and in the independent agency system since 1982. Janice joined Grayhawk Insurance in 2000. Janice has mainly handled large commercial accounts specializing in construction. Janice has a CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) designation. Janice’s role as Managing Vice President of Client Management is to oversee the Austin Office, manage commercial accounts and assist clients in any way possible.
RAUL CAMPA, CIC ext. 252 Raul was born in San Antonio, Texas and raised in Austin. Prior to Raul joining Grayhawk in June 2000, he was a Golf Professional at a country club in Austin for ten years. Raul's role as Assistant Vice-President is to assist clients with their insurance and risk management needs. He also oversees Grayhawk Administrative Services. Raul has a CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) designation.
HELEN GUSTAFSON ext. 254 Helen was born and raised in Round Rock, Texas. Helen came to Grayhawk in December of 2002. After graduating from high school she went immediately to work in the accounting field. Helen has 21 years of experience in the Payroll and the accounting field. Helen's role as Payroll Specialist is to administer payroll to our clients.
KEITH LUNDQUIST ext. 253 Keith was born and raised in Austin, Texas. Keith came to Grayhawk in April 2004. After graduating from Texas Lutheran University in Seguin in 1992, he began his six year career as a professional golfer and ended up at Great Hills Country Club as the first assistant golf professional. He spent 1999 through 2004 in the transportation industry selling class 7 and 8 heavy trucks at Temple Freightliner/Sterling /Western Star in Temple, Texas. Keith’s role at Grayhawk as an Account Executive is to assist clients with their insurance and risk management needs.
SHANNON SCHMIDT, CISR ext. 255 Shannon was born and raised in New Braunfels, Texas. She went to Texas A&M University and received her bachelor’s degree with a Political Science major and a Business Administration minor in 2003. Shannon received her CISR (Certified Insurance Service Representative) designation in July 2006. Shannon’s role at Grayhawk is Assistant Account Manager. She supports in managing commercial accounts and assists clients as needed.
